Why Axesmith?
Founder Kevin Danenberg has been developing Microsoft Access applications since 1995 when he developed a pricing and catalog system for an international cut flower broker. That was Access 2.0! Since then, he’s pushed Access to its limits, and used the platform to solve problems usually reserved for more powerful and expensive development environments.
Originally targeted as a mass-market database, Microsoft tried to keep Access usable for end users, yet extendable beyond the single desktop, providing advanced tools for developers. It was a tall order that Microsoft devoted varying resources to over the years, often at odds with their flagship SQL Server product. They introduced LightSwitch, and later PowerApps, to try to capture that Line-of-Business sweet spot between desktop and enterprise apps. Nevertheless, decades of core business applications were built in Access, some well, some poorly. These need to be maintained and/or replaced. The best resource for the job is a capable developer with depth in the platform and related technologies.
But software development is more than coding at a terminal. It’s working directly with clients to understand their needs. It’s managing a project effectively, with transparency to all stakeholders, and delivering in a timely manner. It’s caring to do the best possible work, standing behind it, and being accountable for project success. This is why you want someone with decades of consulting experience as well as programming skill.
